How can I create image from 2d matrix?

i have 2d matrix with velocities in the range 4900-5100.I have problem with colormap.
function x=f(nd)
x=load('nd.dat') y=transpose(x) image(y) colorbar
Any suggestions regarding the range?

As a first attempt, try replacing
image
with
imagesc
which scales the colormap to the range of values in the matrix.
