I'm taking a class that simRF & RF toolbox would be mighty handy for. Is there a student version of them? The pro versions are way beyond my reach.

Yes, both are available in Student Version. See http://www.mathworks.com/academia/student_version/companion.html
Note: Pro versions of the toolboxes do not work with Student Version software.
