Can I do compression to DICOM image of 16 bits. If so, how can I do that?

Firstly, I have no existing DICOM file file that already has the kind of compression that I want.

Actually, I need any kind of compression. just I want to undestand the syntax of comression method for DICOM in Mat Lab (i.e the input is not commressed DICOM image, the out[ut is comressed DICOM image and vise versa)

16 bit presents complications. See https://www.mccauslandcenter.sc.edu/crnl/tools/jpeg-formats

and also https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/93401-what-values-can-i-add-to-my-dicom-file-with-dicomwrite (I will ask Mathworks if that information is still valid.)
