Use values of matrix in ode function

I am using ode45() to solve a differential equation like this:
[t,state] = ode45(@odefun,tspan,0);
Now I want to solve another differential equation:
dy = state - 4*y
which uses the matrix state that is computed from the first differential equation. How is it possible for the ode solver to get for each time step one value of the matrix state ?

Can you be a bit more explcit with your question and post your 1st differential equation, as well?
From your statement, so far I've understood that with any fixed step solver (odeX of MATALB), it is possible to compute it.
