How to define and store string to matrix or array

Hi,
I have a variable x inside a for loop ,
Input,
In first intration, x='apple'
In second iteration, x= 'mango'
In third interation, x= 'orange'
---------------------------------------
for i=1:3
x='apple';
end
--------------------------------------
I want to store these strings in a matrix or array and write them to a excel file.
Can anyone, tell me how to do ?

With a simple cell array:
N = 3;
C = cell(1,N);
for k = 1:N
x = ... your code
C{k} = x;
end
To export to an Excel file, use one of:
