Set New Static IP on Raspberry Pi

I have my Raspberry Pi connected to matlab however I need to change the IP adress that it has been assigned. I have not been able to do this by following instructions for the generic raspbian image. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, I am quite new to working with Raspberry Pi's.
