to find 8 connectivity of an image

i need to calculate 8 connectivity till an end point or a junction is encontered.please help

sir , i am going to use this 8 connectivity for edge linking process. that is, for each end point of my image the 8 connectivity is checked till another end point is encountered. here i use the term junction for indicating that meeting point of two end points.
after checking for 8 connectivity and labeled it , i also need to find out the D4 distance b/w the points to obtain the link.
i think you may understand this.
