MySQL connection error "Could not create connection to database server"

Trying to connect to a MySQL database using the following code:
connS=database(dbname,user,pswd,'Vendor','MySQL','Server','XXX.XXX.X.XXX','PortNumber', 3306);
Receive error:
"Could not create connection to database server."
This error is not noted in https://www.mathworks.com/help/database/ug/database-connection-error-messages.html with regards to how to resolve it or what the potential issue is. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Resolved my own issue. This error appears when you are trying to connect to a MySQL database server 8.0 with an incompatible version of Matlab, in this case R2016b. Once I updated Matlab I was able to connect
