Query with Gen SEIR model

Hello,

I have basic working knowledge of Matlab and was working with the Generalized SEIR Epidemic Model (fitting and computation) by E. Cheynet.

I was working with the live script example 3 and had the following issues.

Location I was working with was India and Npop was 13.2e10, I did not change any of the Simulation parameters.

I had the following errors :

It was only taking data from 30-Mar onwards, the time, Confirmed, Recovered, Deaths were all 1x16 cells, whereas they should have ideally taken data since March beginning

I had the following queries, which might me very simple to clarify but i could not figure out in the short time I worked with the model.

Inspite of varying most of the simulation parameters my peak active cases did not cross 30000, which most definitely is wrong. Where and what combination of parameters should I be changing for the changes to be noted.
I am unable to figure out the significance of population in this model other than in the ylim function which has been commented out and axis made tight.
