How do I pass the input parameters of a masked subsystem to simulink parameters of an inner referenced model?

Hello,
My job is to create a protected model from a subsystem with tunable parameters. The block on top has a mask with several inputs: radiobuttons, slider, etc. They are listed as dialog variables
I created a referenced model of all the stuff that was inside and put it besically in between the mask and the actual content, because I have to create a referenced model before I can make it a protected model.
The Problem is that the constants do not recognise the dialog variables.
I think simulink.parameters may be the solution. Is it possible, that those automatically get the value specified in the mask?
I am very confused. Unfortunately, I cannot upload anything because the company I work for owns the models.
Any help is much appreciated.
Peter
