Matlab engine for python status

Is there a way to enable matlab output to be viewed within python when running an m-file using the matlab engine. I am running an m-file that parses a large file from with within python and I would like some type of feedback as to how much progress was made from with the python terminal. Ideally, display of a status bar would work best.
