ROI optimization

I would like to choose a region of interest (ROI) above and below an oblique (45°) planar interface in my 2d image. I used ROIPOLY of Matlab to get the rectangular mask from my image. I would like to optimize this rectangular mask so that my model and data values match. How could I programmatically increase/decrease the width and height of the rectangle which I draw parallel to my 45° interface?

%An Image Processing Morphology Approach
You could use imdilate and imerode with an appropriate structuring element (tuned for 45 degrees) to increase/decrease the height width.
