Hi,
Can I create vector graphics (or even bitmaps) to change the default look of live controls of the MATLAB apps that I make? And if so, how far can I go in shaping the app's look, and what's the most effective way of doing it? I'm fairly new to MATLAB, and I couldn't find a way to do it on my own or find any answers on these questions online.
Any hints or insights on this issue would be much appreciated.

For general advice about GUIs in Matlab I would suggest this thread.
I would not recommend to start digging deep if you're fairly new to Matlab. See what you can do with the CData property of the controls that are available natively. For most use cases the built-in tools should be enough and the documentation of each specific control should explain what options you have.
