Stateflow Assertion error in Simulink

I am working on a simulink model which involves multiple subsystems (highest order of the equations is 1, so all algebraic equation input) interlinked together. I am using a fixed step solver.
When I run the simulations, I get an error saying
failed assertion in G:/build/matlab/toolbox/stateflow/src/utils/object.c at line 2921: object[id]!=NULL
with a stack trace
I don't know where to start debugging. Any help is much appreciated.
