xlswrite error

Hi,
the variable data is 17503x23 matrix. hen I try to use xlswrite function:
xlswrite('ISINend.xls',data);
is returning the following error:
Error in ==> ISINComputations at 31
xlswrite('ISINend.xls',data );
??? Error using ==> xlswrite at 213
Excel returned: Error: Object returned error code: 0x800A03EC.
Error in ==> ISINComputations at 31
xlswrite('ISINend.xls',data );
what could be the reason?

On the web i find the same error when the number of columns exceed 256.
