Keyboard shortcut for figure edit mode?

I seem to find myslef constantly going back and forth between edit mode and zoom/grab/datapoint modes, and they edit mode is mutually exclusing to the other modes. These button used to be located close together, but in 2020 the zoom etc button are moved to the upper right of the figure and the edit mode buttin not located close to them. I cannot use the zoom etc modes without turning off the edit mode. I whish they would have a least left them close together. I have looked for a shortcut to turn on/off the edit mode from keybaord but don't see it. any suggestions?
