You tagged the question for release R11.1 from November 1999, i.e. twenty years ago. I am impressed that you are still using this version, but I doubt many people here would be able to write or test code for that particular version. Personally I draw the line at R2009b, when the tilde was introduced for ignored function inputs/outputs.
