How do i calculate the affine transformations of an image?

I am doing some research on fractal image compression but i am not well conversant with many things yet. I would like to ask how the affine (isometric)transformations for a given image are calculated. I have looked at the equations that explain the process but then how to get those (random) numbers that converge to give a specific image is still my problem. Furthermore, are those figures supposed to be universal for any image or does each image its specific affine transformations that converge to it individually? Please help me understand how to arrive to those figures. Thank you very much

Steve talks about this a lot. See his blogs.
