Finding the .m file from a data file

Is it possible to know which .m file created a data file from looking at the data file?
Cheers

Generally speaking, NO. In some cases, the .m file might have deliberately put its own name in the data file, but this does not happen often.
.m file names are not automatically recorded when files are created.

Use the same name for your data and m file

It's difficult to guess, if we don't know what those files are generating? but I think you can guess from the size of your data for example, or others clues.

How many data files and m files do you have? We can for example run all your m files, and compare their results to the imported data files

Only if there is some clue, such as the filename is hard coded into an m-file. In that case, you can use "Find Files..." on the ribbon or pulldown menu to locate files that have that filename coded into them. Or look for some text (e.g. header lines) in the file that may have been mentioned in the file (again, use "Find files").
