How to verify a specific user input (excel array)

Hey !
I'd like to ask the user the enter the excel array on which he just stored values from an experiment, such as this : B5:C24 .
How can I check if the format of is input is right? (I don't want the program to stop since it is long and expensive to do)

Do the xlsread of these particular cells, save them in an array and use the validateattributes function, or if you have specifics, you can use if conditions.
