Submatrixes with different rows

Hi all
i have a certain matrix 45x5, i want to neatly cut this matrix in submatrixes (or maybe group into cells) with different rows (a1,a2,a3); how can i do that? So the submatrixes will go from:
1) 1----a1 (a1 rows)
2)a1+1----n1 (a2 rows)
3)n1+1-----n2(a3 rows)
