3D Scattered volume data to surface plot?

I am trying to visualize a 3D object in matlab (exported from modeling software), but the file is too big and spells instance RAM death if I try to use plot3 or scatter3 as-is. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. potato=[1E6 x 3] double
I'd like to use something like:
>>F = TriScatteredInterp(potato(:,1), potato(:,2), potato(:,3));
>>[qx, qy] = meshgrid(linspace(min(potato(:,1)), max(potato(:,1)), 100), ... linspace(min(potato(:,2)), max(potato(:,2)), 100));
>>qz = F(qx, qy);
>>mesh(qx, qy, qz);
But since x/y are non-unique, it's not really doing what I want. Thanks again, Matt
