I get the following expression for a variable 'a' :
2-7/6+1/6*97^(1/2)+1/6*(-646-86*97^(1/2))^(1/2) -7/6+1/6*97^(1/2)-1/6*(-646-86*97^(1/2))^(1/2) -7/6-1/6*97^(1/2)+1/6*(-646+86*97^(1/2))^(1/2) -7/6-1/6*97^(1/2)-1/6*(-646+86*97^(1/2))^(1/2)
What is the command to simplify it to get a single value in the command window ?

If a is sym:
double(a)

or you can just use the func simplify
simplify(a).
