How to extract data from an XML file

Dear MatLab Experts,
I am having troubles at running the code presented in one of MatLab published examples (attached) with my XML file (attached zipped).
The main function from the code sample does NOT create any output structure.
I followed the execution of the funtion step-by-step with the debugger. I see the code finds 15 children but does not store anything. Nevertheless it does not return any error.
Any suggestion and /or help iw very welcome.
