How can I load multiple photos and display them with the slider in guide?

Hi, I'm writing my bachelor thesis and I want to create aplication that:
  • upload multiple images and display them like this:
This is begining of my code:
function upload_image_Callback(hObject, eventdata, handles)
[filename pathname] = uigetfile('*.png', '*.dcm', 'Multiselect', 'on')
File = fullfile(filename, pathname)
setappdata(handles.upload_image,'File',File);
if(filename ~= 0)
img = strcat(pathname, filename);
axes(handles.axes1)
img_p = imread(img);
imshow(img_p)
setappdata(handles.upload_image,'img_p', img_p);
else
return;
end

A while ago I wrote a small toolbox that does something like this - except I used two windows, one for a thumb-nail gallery, and one for the full-image display. I think that file-exchange submission (Imthumb) should have a number of code-pieces that you might benefit from.
