contour plot WITH gradient arrows shown below a mesh plot

I have a function of Z in variables X and Y. I can plot a contour plot below a mesh with meshc. Or I can plot a quiver plot on a 2-D contour plot in x y by using both contour and quiver. I can even get a quiver3 plot to show up on the mesh using both mesh and quiver3.
How do I get all four to show up in one plot? When I use meshc, hold, quiver. It plots the 2-D quiver plot at the z=0 elevation NOT at the minimum z level.
