For example: If your plot command goes like:
plot(x1,y1,x2,y2,x3,y3,x4,y4,....); % plotting xith against yith
add the legend in the same order than variables were added into the plot command
legend('var1','var2','var3','var4',...)
You'll see on the legend what colour each pair of variables has on the plot.
