How to get average image on multiple frames in folder

Each image is 256 by 256 pixel size.The file I got from the experiments is a .dcm(dicom) int 16 data.the file contains 1000 frames .

Read in each frame, cast it to double, and accumulate, then divide to get the average.
for k = 1 : numberOfFrames
% read in frame with domcomread()
if k == 1
sumFrame = double(thisFrame);
else
sumFrame = sumFrame + double(thisFrame);
end
end
averageFrame = sumFrame / numberOfFrames;
