Why does the axis equal command not work in my code?

When I execute the following code :

axis equal
circle = rsmak('circle');fnplt(circle)

the circle still looks like an ellipse

This is an expected behavior. The AXIS EQUAL command needs to be used after the PLOT command for it to take effect.

Execute the following code for the circle to appear correctly:

circle = rsmak('circle');fnplt(circle)
axis equal
