The Network license options, Concurrent and Network Named User, allow users to share a pool of license keys.  The licenses consist of one or more keys for MATLAB and/or any number of keys for toolboxes and other products.
Network licenses are hosted by a License Manager on a chosen machine that will act as the License Server. When a user starts MATLAB, or any other MathWorks product, the user machine—the client machine—reaches out to the License Server to check out a key for that product, thus allowing the user to launch the product.
When MATLAB or any standalone product is closed, it will automatically return the key to the license server which becomes available for others to use. The Network License Manager must be set up before any user can launch the licensed products, and users must maintain their network connection to the License Server while using the key.
There are three steps to set up a network license:
  • Activating and Installing the Network License Manager on the server
  • Installing on client computers
  • Configure your options file

For instructions on how to install MATLAB on the client machine after installing the License Manager, please refer to the following:

Configure the Options File (Network Named User Only and Concurrent Optional)

Network Named User licenses require an options file with a list of the computer usernames specified for each product for usage. To configure the Options file, please reference the following article:
