Why am I unable to specify the word size or work with integer arithmetic in the Filter Design Toolbox?

I am using the Filter Design and Fixed-Point Toolboxes in a simulation of IIR and FIR filters which are implemented with integer representation. I have not been able to assign variables desired word sizes and I have not been able to get integer results as desired.

I would like to see a prearranged configuration in which all the arithmetic is performed with integers and all the user has to specify is word sizes for inputs and results.
