Why does the MATLAB command 'web URL -browser' fail to launch Internet Explorer 7.0 beta 2 when it is the default browser ?

My computer has Internet Explorer 7.0 installed as the default browser. I expect that the command 'web www.mathworks.com -browser' will bring up the MathWorks web page in an Internet Explorer 7.0 window. However, a browser window is not visible, but the task manager shows a new process for Internet Explorer 7.0.
Why is the browser window not visible ?

Internet Explorer 7.0 beta 2 is a beta version that has not been tested for functionality with MATLAB.
As a workaround, use the browser built in to MATLAB to browse your website. To use MATLAB's built in browser, use the following syntax at the MATLAB prompt:
web www.mathworks.com
