Alternative connections to MySQL

I have been trying to connect MySQL database with Matlab. I have the database toolbox and I have tried without any luck.
I have downloaded MySQL ODBC driver 5.2 and tried with that. But the issue I am having is I don't have access to the server on port 3306. As I don't have all the connection parameters, I was wondering if anyone knows of an alternative to connect to the MySQL database?
All other suggestions would be appreciated as well.
