Stateflow for classifying/desicion making?

A friend suggested using Stateflow to simulate a system I'm working on, which has lots of logic - decisions. I use several sets of data from a Matlab workspace, compare them, make lots of if-else- rules and employ some functions, to finally reach a decision about the data. E.g., pick one point in a set. Stateflow seems like a great tool to express all the if-elses and loops, but all the examples I saw were about some real time application, and not really data processing. Am I missing a great tool for my work?
