How to check the positivity of a function?

Hi,
Given a function f(x), with x defined as a symbolic variable, how can I check the positivity function of f(x)?
Any kind of help?

First two checks: is limit(f(x),x,infinity) negative? Is limit(f(x),x,-infinity) negative?
After that: find the critical points of f(x) using calculus, and check to see if f is negative at any of them.
