Why isn't Matlab detecting my webcam?

Hi
I am accessing Matlab remotely through my school's "Apps Logon' page. I want to use MATLAB for image acquisition. However, when I try imaqhwinfo(Adapter name, deviceID) it says there is no device with that ID. The Image acquisition toolbox doesn't display my webcam in the hardware box either. Is the problem because of the remote access?
