Simple way to "shrink" the dashes on a line

I want to make the dashes on my lines a lot smaller than they are.

Here is a sample for line of code I used for each line:

plot([2.5 5],[4.71 4.71],'--k')

Here is my current graph:

I want my dashes to be small like this graph has it

Can using linewidth make it happen?

No, line width does not control the ratio of line to gap for dashes, just how thick the line is.
