I need to download the library because matlab doesn't recognises the function quaternion()

There are two hits I found for quaternion.m. One is one the file exchange, where you can download it.

However, you may be trying to use tools from the Robotics System Toolbox. If so, then you need a license for that TB.

Also, the quaternion( ) class was introduced rather recently in R2018b. So that version or a later version would be needed.
