HDL coder support for Microchip high level synthesis tool SmartHLS
显示 更早的评论
Hi Team,
Do we have any timeline for adding SmartHLS support to HDL Coder? Could you please let us know if this is currently planned and, if so, when we can expect it to be available?
Thank you!

I'm sorry, but Answers is not a team. And we have no access to any information about timelines or any knowledge of when a given capability will appear in MATLAB. Answers is entirely volunteer driven, a community of just users of MATLAB, not employees in general, though employees do often look in here.
However, anyone who is an employee of The MathWorks and who might know the answer to your question will also be under a non-disclosure agreement, so they could tell you absolutely nothing anyway.
You could try contacting MathWorks directly with your question, but they too will be under an NDA. Any response from them will be highly limited in terms of specific timelines or exact plans. Perhaps better might be to contact support, the reason being to indicate what you want as a feature request. At least then you might get someone thinking about your idea as a useful feature of that toolset. Remember that if nobody asks for a given capability, they might decide nobody needs it. Your request might get some action, at least in a future release. (Even so however, they will not give you a sure date for anything when it will appear.)

Considering that HDL Coder hasn't added capability for the AMD/Xilinx HLS language, I wouldn't hold my breath. I've used HDL Coder for several projects and have spoken with their support staff (hi Curie!) on multiple occasions. For instance, AMD has done a webinar on how to do FFTs with the AI engines instead of just fabric, which involves using Vitis HLS. So far, it looks very hard to get a marginal improvement, so I don't see us or Mathworks rushing in there. Perhaps some of the higher level AI libraries may get you there faster if you're doing AI. I do more "traditional" DSP and not AI. It probably would need to be a different product since you're not working with HDL (VHDL or Verilog) any more, perhaps more akin to MATLAB Coder that generates C++ or so. Just a very different tool flow.

Get Started with MATLAB to High-Level Synthesis Workflow.
HDL Coder has examples that show how to use the HDL Coder™ to generate High-Level Synthesis (HLS) code from MATLAB® code, including floating-point to fixed-point conversion. The workflows supported today are Cadence Genus for ASIC design, and Vivado HLS for FPGA/SoC workflows. Catapult HLS support is in beta in R2026b pre-release. It is our understanding that SmartHLS flow is closer to Vitis HLS flow.
