Is it possible to visualise SimMechanics 2nd generation model without using Mechanics explorer?

I have a model which I want to control in real time. So I want to use VR Sink block and joystick input from simulink 3d animation library. Is it possible or I should convert my model from second generation to first and control it like a mech_robot_vr example?

That should be possible. If you go to the Model Configuration Parameters, you can turn off the Mechanics Explorer. Then, you can use sensor signals from the SimMechanics model to feed into a VR Sink block.
The only thing you have to watch out for creating the VRML file representing the 3D world. If you're importing the SimMechanics model from CAD, you should similarly be able to save as a VRML file from most CAD software.
