Permission error when installing the Compiler

Every time I attempt to install the Compiler, I get the following error:
The following error was detected while installing mcr/aggregators/core_common: Error 1 setting permissions for /usr/local/MATLAB/R2015b/bin/registry/mmreaderudd.xml. Operation not permitted
I've changed all permissions in my MATLAB directory and in the directory where the installer is located to 777 (I know, this is a no-no, but whatever). I am using MATLAB R2015b on Ubuntu 14.04

You need to sudo to install the software. Generally speaking, in Unix systems you can only change the ownership or only suid / sguid a file that you own, unless you are root.
