Is this the procedure you followed?
I downloaded Microsoft Visual Studio, the one linked in the R2015a supported compliers, and no matter what I try "mex -setup" is not seeing anything. I even downloaded SDK 7.1 but still nothing.

I've been troubleshooting for hours now and I can't get matlab to run any compilers. I have downloaded both Visual Studio and Windows SDK but 'mex -setup' wont do anything. Am I missing any steps? This is getting frustrating and have a long night ahead of me because of these issues, any help would be great! There is not much info out there that is allowing me to solve this without reaching out. Everytime I enter 'mex -setup' it displays "No supported compiler or SDK was found. For options, visit http://www.mathworks.com/support/compilers/R2015a/win64.html." But I have 2 downloaded.

You did not mention which operating system you are running.
If you are using Windows 10 you will have a fair bit of trouble getting a compiler to work with R2015a
