basic array with for loop

I would like to build an array while running a for loop as follows:
for 256:-1:1
...loop generates values like date, mean, std
end
i'd like to build a matrix that follows this format
1, date, mean, std
2, date, mean, std
3, date, mean, std
I know this is pretty basic, thank you for your time and any help you can provide.

Do like this:
a = {'22-03-2012',22,3;'22-03-2012',22,3;'22-03-2012',22,3}
