I have multiple variables, but I'm only trying to look at the data for one of them. Example ('AM0001_FILT' and 'AM0001').

I'm using this code:

bb=regexp('AM0001_FILT', handles.ParaID);

This ends up matching both AM0001_FILT and AM0001, when all I want is the AM0001_FILT.

How do I only match to AM0001_FILT?

I think you have the order of arguments reversed.

STRCMP or STRNCMP might help here. They are less powerful, but as compensation they are easier.
