changing width for certain columns in a uitable?

in uitable, do all columns have to have the same width?
I have a table, and I would like certain columns to be wider than others, but when I use
set(t(:,1),'ColumnWidth',{150});
all columns are of the same size.
and when I use :
set(t(:,1),'ColumnWidth',{150});
set(t(:,2),'ColumnWidth',{50});
This gives me an error:"Index exceeds matrix dimensions. "
Any idea?
