how to find the wordlength of Alias types

Hello,
i need to find the wordlength of the Mask parameter variable of type 'DataTypeStr'.
user may choose 'fixdt(1,16,1)' from the drop down where this case i use {parameter name}.WordLength to find the word length. But how i could find the word length in case the user chooses 'int16' or 'int32' or anyother AliasType's.
