Is there any method to know the steps how does a program executes ?

hello, i have a main m.file which executes the other m.files containing other functions associated to the code. It is basically a code written for a tool developed with the help of GUI. I want to know how does the program executes, step-by-step, so that I can know the program structure properly.

The best method is using the debugger: Set a breakpoint in the first line, start the program and then run it line by line. You can observe the values of the locally used variables in the Workspace-Browser. You can step into subfunctions also.
