Ciao a tutti, sono nuova della community, volevo chiedervi un grandissimo aiuto. Mi sto perdendo nel calcolo del VaR. Devo calcolare il VaR a diversi periodi, un giorno, un mese, un anno.... sapete indicarmi la strada da percorrere? Io ho sviluppato un programma che, data la mia serie storica di prezzi, mi simula 1000 scenari atteraverso la funzione portsim, calcolo la distribuzione del P&L e da qui ricavo il VaR al 95%...ma il periodo a cui voglio calcolare il VaR dove lo inserisco? I don't speak Italian, but here is what I understand from google translate.
% VaR can be calculated using percentile on your prices:
VaR95 = prctile(StockPrices,0.95)
VaR90 = prctile(StockPrices,0.90)

I am not an expert on this topic, but if you have daily returns then the VaR would be based on that. If you'd like to calculate VaR for a different return series, then you can do that when computing the return series using tick2ret:

Neanche io sono un esperto di questo campo, pero' il VaR che calcoli da portsim si riferisce alla fine del periodo che hai simulato con portsim, cui passi NumObs per indicare la finestra temporale della simulazione. Per calcolare il VaR a diversi periodi futuri io prenderei solo i dati entro quella finestra, cioe' per esempio per il VaR a 10 giorni io userei solo i dieci valori iniziali (se la tua simulazione ha RetIntervals=1 ).
RetSim(1:10,:,:)
