Applying AI to Real-World Sensor Data using MATLAB and NI Tools
Overview
Engineers and scientists increasingly need to develop and test AI algorithms that work with live sensor data for applications in predictive maintenance, IoT and smart manufacturing. This workflow requires easy access to data acquired from data acquisition hardware, preprocessing of the acquired data to identify features, and a framework to train, test and deploy the AI algorithm. Join experts from MathWorks and NI to discuss two real-world sensor data acquisition applications focused on Artificial Intelligence and learn how MATLAB and NI tools can be used together to carry out the machine learning workflow. The webinar will highlight the following demos:
- Material Classification demo where live real-world sensor data captured from NI-DAQmx hardware is used to classify wood species based on signal analysis of vibrational characteristics.
- Speech Classification demo where a custom speech recognition algorithm is used to classify spoken words.
Attendees of the webinar will learn how MATLAB and Data Acquisition Toolbox can be used to acquire live sensor data from NI data acquisition hardware, how an AI algorithm can be developed and tested using MATLAB and the sensor data collected from the NI hardware, and how an AI algorithm developed in MATLAB can be called from a LabVIEW program.

About the Presenters
Jacob George
Senior Product Manager, MathWorks
Jacob George started at MathWorks in September 2022 as Senior Product Manager for ThingSpeak, Data Acquisition Toolbox and Image Acquisition Toolbox. Jacob is focused on use of the products in both commercial and educational areas with an emphasis on strategic vision. Before MathWorks, Jacob worked in a SAAS logistics startup spun out of MIT as Senior Solutions Engineer and previously in the sensor semiconductor space as Applications Engineer.
Jacob graduated from Cornell University with a Master’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a concentration in Business. He grew up in the Middle East and Dubai is home. He’s curious and enjoys learning new things, he’s currently delving into finance and tennis.
Austin Santon
Product Marketing Manager, National Instruments
Austin Stanton has worked at NI in both Applications Engineering and Product Marketing. His current role as a Product Marketing Engineer focuses on PXI and Modular Instruments. Austin leverages the time he spent working with these products as an AE to better communicate their value. Before working at NI, Austin worked at Digilent where he created LabVIEW projects using Digilent hardware.
Austin holds a BS in Biomechanical Engineering from Washington State University. He spends his time watching and playing soccer, making DIY electronics projects, and enjoying the great music and fun nightlife that Austin (the city) has to offer.
