Simscape Real-Time Simulation
You can use a Simscape model as the plant model for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing. When you prepare a model for HIL, you make changes that balance performance and fidelity until your model can run on the target hardware at real-time speed. From your desktop computer, you can use Simscape to develop your plant model and integrate it with your controller model. Once your model is ready for real-time and your controller hardware and software are available, you deploy the plant model to a real-time target machine. The figure shows the HIL simulation process.

For applications that require smaller time steps than what the target CPU can simulate, you can deploy your model to an FPGA that is mounted to the real-time target using HDL Coder™. When your model is ready for the real-time target, you can use Simulink® Real-Time™ to deploy your model.
